HUBBY MAKING CHAIRS

Hubby spends a lot of time in his workshop. He has built a lot of things for our home down there and enjoyed every minutes of it. His favorite thing is making Windsor chairs, because of our interest in the 18th Century. That was the century we declaired our independence from England. (Sorry Pastor--he's English, you know.)

Hubby is working on a Philadelphia fanback with arms at the present time. I don't have a clue where we are going to put this chair when he finishes it, because we are presently housing four bow back Windsors around our kitchen table, four more bow back Windsors scattered all over the house and the first bow back Windsor he made a John C. Campbell Folk School is gracing our foyer. So, does any body want to buy four bow back Windsor chairs? All the spindles of these chairs are made from oak trees he actually cut with his own hands, the legs are maple and the seats are white pine. All have antique finishes, except for the first one, which he painted green. GREEN!? Yes, the first Windsor chairs were actually 18th Century lawn chairs. They were mostly used outside and they were all painted.

He has watched Norm Abrham's video on making a Windsor chair so many times I think I could make a chair myself. I'm positive I can put the finish on it, because that is part of the video.

Thanks so much for the tip on the fishing pond. Catch and release would be FINE with us. We actually sent all that trout home with our 18 year old cousin. Thanks so much for the tip!!!

Oh, Tee, how nice of you to comment. During Speed Week the speed channel ran a special about early NASCAR and they had film of Red Bryon winning the race. I wish you had seen it. Have you gotten interested in watching the races since the IMAX? My husband, Harry, and I each did the Daytona Ride Along last summer. It was three laps at race speeds (160+) with one of the practice drivers. It was sooooo much fun.

Congrats on retirement. Harry and I are both retired and we love it.

My father did wood working as a hobby and I always followed him around the workshop. Don't you just love the smell of freshly plained wood?

I hope you continue to visit my blog - I'll be visiting yours.

I'm envious - your husband has the tools and actually USES them! My husband has a cellar full of big wood-working tools, and he USED to be very handy that way. Now...not so much. But he's 56 and 'tired' - maybe once he retires he will have the spark to get back into wood-working.

You should post a photo of the finished chairs, and a price - I would love to see both.
